Coggles
Coggles began in York in 1974 as a small family dress shop, Sarah Coggles Frock Shop. Founded by Victoria Bage, Mark Bage, and Sarah Bage, it soon became one of the best-known fashion destinations in the UK.
By 2005 Mark Bage had built Coggles.com, an online fashion and lifestyle site, from a startup to a community of more than 300,000 users, through marketing that included social and digital campaigns. Over its first 30 years the business passed 100 million in sales and trained more than 2,200 people.
Where design carries commercial weight
A central part of the brief was a site that would reflect the company’s editorial character, its look, and its feeling.
We were asked to design the site, the customer experience, the creative direction, and the integration of stock with a custom-built e-commerce system.
Coggles, a premium fashion retailer, has been sold to Frasers Group. The sale follows several changes of ownership. Pentland acquired it in a multimillion-pound deal in 2010. In 2013 it became part of The Hut Group (THG). Under THG the retailer returned to physical retail in 2018, after a period in administration. Frasers Group, continuing a run of high-profile acquisitions, has added Coggles to a portfolio that includes Matches: another chapter in a long history.
